First They Came for My College

Following the sudden conservative overhaul of Sarasota's New College of Florida, the documentary First They Came for My College captures the institutional clash from the perspective of the students. Incorporating cell phone footage shot by the undergraduates themselves, the film chronicles the 2023 administrative takeover and the ensuing resistance by faculty and the campus newspaper. Directors Patrick Bresnan and colleagues bypass the national talking points, focusing instead on the daily reality of a close-knit academic community attempting to preserve its traditions and academic freedom.
