HMS Pinafore w/ Sarasota Opera

Class boundaries and naval protocol capsize in the comedic operetta H.M.S. Pinafore, marking the first time the Sarasota Opera has staged a work by W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. The Victorian satire revolves around the romantic entanglement of a lowly sailor and the captain’s daughter, complicated by the arrival of the pompous First Lord of the Admiralty. The production requires the principal singers to master dense, rapid-fire patter songs while navigating absurd plot twists and mistaken identities. The staging offers a lighthearted departure from the company's tragic repertoire, relying on sharp English dialogue and bouncy, enduring melodies.
