Indigo Dyeing Workshop

Participants learn the mechanics of natural, plant-based coloration during this hands-on workshop led by UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County. Held at Twin Lakes Park, the class walks attendees through the process of preparing a traditional indigo vat and manipulating fabric to create intricate patterns. Instructors demonstrate folding, tying, and binding techniques to achieve various textile designs before the material is submerged in the dye. The session provides a structured environment for individuals to experiment with ancient dyeing methods, focusing on the chemical reaction that occurs as the indigo oxidizes and turns from green to its signature deep blue once exposed to the air.
