Let’s Make Some Black Gold!

The UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County demystifies the composting process in this hands-on soil management class at Twin Lakes Park. The workshop breaks down the science of decomposition, teaching residents how to convert kitchen scraps and yard waste into nutrient-dense organic fertilizer. Instructors explain the necessary ratios of nitrogen to carbon, proper moisture levels, and techniques for aerating the pile to prevent odors. The practical session provides all the necessary information for homeowners to reduce their household waste while simultaneously improving the health and water retention of their garden soil.
