National Theatre Live: Frankenstein (Cumberbatch as Creature)

Danny Boyle’s landmark 2011 Royal National Theatre stage adaptation of Mary Shelley’s gothic tale returns to area cinema screens via National Theatre Live high-definition transmissions, including showings at Burns Court Cinema. Adapted by Nick Dear, the staged production famously rotated its two leading men between the roles of creator and creature. This captured performance features Benedict Cumberbatch as the grotesque, articulate Creature born into a hostile world, opposite Jonny Lee Miller as Victor Frankenstein, framed under Mark Tildesley’s industrial set design and a score by Underworld.
