Singin’ In The Rain

Director and choreographer Josh Rhodes mounts a full-scale stage adaptation of the classic Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film, tackling the chaotic transition from silent movies to "talkies" in late-1920s Hollywood. The production at Asolo Repertory Theatre requires massive technical execution, famously recreating a localized downpour inside the Mertz Theatre for the title number. The script retains the sharp, satirical edge of the original screenplay while demanding rigorous tap routines and sweeping physical comedy from the cast. The score features enduring standards that anchor the romance and industry absurdity, translating the cinematic scale of the original into immediate, live theatrical spectacle.
