Uncovering a suppressed chapter of rock history, the documentary What the Hell Happened to Blood, Sweat & Tears? investigates a controversial 1970 tour behind the Iron Curtain. At the height of their mainstream success, the horn-driven band agreed to play in Yugoslavia, Romania and Poland on behalf of the U.S. State Department. The film uses recently unearthed footage to show how the musicians became pawns caught between the Nixon White House, foreign governments and an unforgiving counterculture press back home.
