E Scow Midwinters

A massive fleet of 28-foot flat-bottomed racing sailboats descends on Sarasota Bay for the E Scow Midwinters, hosted by the Sarasota Sailing Squadron. This high-speed national regatta draws elite crews from across the country to compete in the notoriously fast, highly overpowered E Scow class. Because the boats possess no heavy keel, the sailors must rely entirely on crew weight and aggressive, synchronized movements to keep the vessels upright in strong coastal winds. Spectators can watch the intense, fast-paced action from City Island as the massive asymmetrical spinnakers deploy and the boats plane rapidly across the water.
