Florida-Friendly Landscaping™: Planting for Suncoast Songbirds

Horticulturists from the UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County detail how to transform residential yards into active avian habitats during this ecological design class. Held at Twin Lakes Park, the seminar identifies the specific native shrubs, trees, and seed-bearing plants that attract local and migratory songbirds to the Gulf Coast. Instructors explain the critical relationship between specific plant structures and bird shelter, foraging, and nesting habits. The presentation shifts the goal of home gardening from simple aesthetics to creating vital, functioning micro-ecosystems that support regional biodiversity.
