Penfield Memorial Regatta

Sailors gather on the waters of Sarasota Bay for the Penfield Memorial Regatta, an invitational competitive racing event hosted by the Sarasota Sailing Squadron. The regatta honors the local sailing community's history while testing the tactical skills of regional crews across multiple boat classes. Spectators on City Island can watch the fleet navigate shifting coastal winds and tidal currents around the designated racecourse. The competition emphasizes precise boat handling and strategic maneuvering, ending with a traditional onshore gathering at the Squadron’s open-air pavilion.
