Serial Readers Book Club: “The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion: Vol. 2”

The serialized misadventures of a nineteenth-century Londoner drive the conversation at this meeting of the Serial Readers Book Club at Bookstore1Sarasota. The group tackles Beth Brower’s The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion: Vol. 2, tracking the protagonist's continued navigation of the eccentric St. Crispin’s neighborhood. The discussion focuses on Brower’s epistolary format, the wit of her Victorian social critiques, and the specific narrative arcs that carry over from the first volume. The gathering appeals to readers who enjoy dissecting character development across multiple installments, unpacking the historical details and comedic timing of a sprawling, multi-part historical fiction project.
