Star Wars: Return of the Jedi

John Williams’ monumental cinematic score is stripped of its recorded limitations and performed live to picture by the Sarasota Orchestra. As the 1983 science fiction conclusion plays in its entirety on a massive screen inside the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, the symphonic ensemble executes every musical cue in real time. The format exposes the intricate leitmotifs and brass-heavy tension that drive the film's climactic lightsaber battles and emotional resolutions. By placing the musicians directly in front of the screen, the presentation highlights the exhausting technical endurance required to synchronize a massive live orchestra with the rigid timing of a final film edit.
