The Drowsy Chaperone SR

A die-hard musical theater fan plays his favorite cast album and watches it come to life in his living room during this production at the Manatee Performing Arts Center. The Drowsy Chaperone acts as a loving parody of 1920s American musical comedy, filled with mistaken identities, dream sequences, and an unflappable matriarch. This particular staging features a senior cast taking on the Tony Award-winning show's exaggerated characters. Instead of a straightforward revival, the meta-narrative format allows the narrator to offer dry, running commentary on the tropes and historical quirks of the Golden Age stage.
