The Sarasota Ballet’s Program Six – Romeo and Juliet

Sergei Prokofiev’s heavy, cinematic score propels The Sarasota Ballet’s Program Six, a full-length staging of Sir Frederick Ashton’s Romeo and Juliet. Accompanied by the Sarasota Orchestra at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, the ballet tracks the familiar Shakespearean tragedy through Ashton's intensely romantic and intricate choreography. The production, courtesy of Peter Schaufuss, demands deep theatrical commitment from the dancers to convey the violent feuds and desperate affection of Verona. The scale of the work fills the large stage, utilizing the full company to execute elaborate crowd scenes and intimate pas de deux.
