The Script Society Reads “I’m Gonna Marry You Tobey Maguire”

The Script Society at Bookstore1Sarasota offers readers a chance to jump into a script together, with no acting experience required. Led by Roxanne Baker, the collaborative reading group will tackle Samantha Hurley’s 2024 dark comedy "I'm Gonna Marry You Tobey Maguire." Set in 2004, the fast-paced farce centers on a neglected middle-schooler who kidnaps the "Spider-Man" actor and hides him in her South Dakota basement, intending to make him her husband. This gathering invites theater lovers to sit around the table, take on roles, and bring to life a script that blends absurd Y2K pop culture obsession with genuine adolescent angst.
