Upgrade

An Upper East Side couple’s attempt to refresh their marriage descends into chaos in the world premiere of Sandy Rustin's Upgrade at Florida Studio Theatre. The dark romantic comedy follows Lorraine and Stu as they embark on a series of increasingly absurd self-improvement exercises and technological interventions designed to fix their stagnant relationship. The script explores the modern obsession with optimization and the exhausting pressure to constantly better oneself, mining humor from the couple's neuroses and frantic attempts at intimacy. The production relies on sharp, contemporary dialogue and rapid-fire banter to unpack the terrifying realities of long-term commitment.
