Cinema at The Bay: Arrival (10th Anniversary)

Denis Villeneuve’s 2016 science fiction drama Arrival plays on a large projection screen at The Oval, the central lawn of The Bay Park. Based on a short story by Ted Chiang, the film follows linguistics professor Louise Banks (Amy Adams) as she attempts to communicate with extraterrestrial visitors whose massive, pod-like ships have suddenly touched down across the globe. Unlike action-heavy alien invasion narratives, the picture focuses on the complexities of language, memory, and time. The outdoor screening requires guests to bring their own seating, and food trucks are stationed along the perimeter of the lawn throughout the film.
